Many students might not have had the opportunity to look into Oman as their potential study destination. Oman, however, has long been a very feasible destination for foreign students to pursue a degree. They are coming up the ranks in attracting international students alongside more prominent countries such as UAE and Qatar. This trend has been improving positively with more and more international students looking to attain quality education in one of the naturally beautiful countries in the Middle East. Degrees are offered at all levels – undergraduate, graduate and PhD programs that too fully in the English language. Moreover, Oman does have a good number of well ranked and string research-based universities such as such as Sultan Qaboos University. Not to mention, few foreign universities also have their branches in Oman. To make things easier for overseas students, the universities provide scholarship opportunities for international student. As a result, Bangladeshi students can find a lot of interesting opportunities to pursue a study abroad experience in Oman. The scholarships can range from full exemption of tuition fees to full scholarship including stipend. Although it can get competitive, many talented Bangladeshi students do avail this opportunity every year. The application period normally start 6-8 months prior to the desired semester. There are mainly 2 semesters, Autumn (starting September) and Spring (starting January). Documentations such as high school and graduate certificates are required, along with your transcripts, proof of English language proficiency and work experience (if any). Additionally, an IELTS score of 6.5 should be enough to land admission and visa. However, few degrees may require scores higher than that.
Apart from the educational aspects, Oman is a beautiful country to live in for Bangladeshi students as the medium of communication is English and a large Asian community also exists. The culture and weather are very familiar with Bangladeshi students. The food is great and the people are extremely friendly as well. As one can speak in English, it is also much easier to find part-time work and build connections. The living expenses can get up to 250-300 rials depending on your lifestyle and which city you live in. Interestingly, most cities in Oman have a moderate living expenses and is stable. Therefore, all in all, Ireland is a great adventure waiting for Bangladeshi students!
